Birth Doula Visits Explained

Your care includes so much more than just 8–11 “visits.”

Insurance defines a doula visit as:
One encounter with your provider
Virtual or in-person
Typically 30-60 minutes in duration

However, real doula care goes far beyond that.

What’s Included in Your Birth Support Package

We are by your side from pregnancy through postpartum, with 24–60+ hours of personalized care. Here's how it adds up:

Consultation, Intake, Resources & Education

  • Initial conversations, resource sharing, and personalized planning.

Ongoing Access & Communication

  • Available via phone, text, and email throughout your pregnancy.
    On-call 24/7 as your due date approaches.

Monthly Prenatal Visits, Example Schedule Below

  • 22 Week Check-in (virtual: phone or video call)

    • Review your recent scans, share good news, discuss pregnancy symptoms and remedies, and more.

  • 28 Week Check-in (virtual: phone or video call)

    • Review important upcoming tests and scans, discuss daily habits to achieve your goals, and more.

  • 32 Week Check-in (virtual: phone or video call)

    • Complete a birth preferences draft to share with your provider and your birth team.

  • 36 Week Home Visit (in person)

    • Finalize your birth preferences, hands on practice of comfort techniques, review what to expect on the big day!

  • 38 Week Check-in (virtual: phone or video call)

    • Review and adjust plans as needed.

Labor, Birth & Immediate Postpartum Support

  • Phone check-ins during pre-labor and early labor

  • In-person support at home and/or hospital

  • Hands-on comfort measures

  • Emotional and advocacy support

  • Immediate postpartum care at the bedside

Postpartum Support

  • A chance to process your birth, receive newborn care support, and check in on your recovery.

Total Time Together: ~24 to 60+ Hours
